“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
- Matthew 5:14-16

Eugene Hopkins, Minister of Music
Gene is Hickory Street's longest tenured employee. His work at our church began in 1967, soon after he was graduated from Westminster Choir College.
Attracted to our area by his wife Kathy, a native Scrantonian, Gene started as a full-time Minister of Music and Youth Worker but later began a teaching career in the Scranton School District from which he retired in 2005.
Gene is a master organist! It would be hard to find someone who can match his ability to lead congregational singing, especially on our beautiful 51-ranked Casevant organ. Gene and Kathy live in Moscow, PA and are the parents of three grown children, Barbara, Richard, and Eugene, Jr. and, the grandparents of seven grandchildren.
Gene can be reached by phone at 570-842-2272 or by email at gkh7867@gmail.com
The Organ at Hickory Street is certainly a most prominent feature in our Sanctuary, but more than that it provides a solid foundation for our music . This magnificent instrument was designed by and built for Charles M. Courboin a renowned concert organist who served as Hickory Street's organist from 1920-1927. The organ was built in 1920 by Casavant Freres Ltd. of St. Hyachinthe , Canada. The instrument contains more than 3,000 pipes making up 50 stops. .Each stop makes its own distinct sound creating an infinite number of combinations and levels to perform or accompany virtually any kind of music. It is amazing to note that for almost 100 years now this organ has been enhancing and leading in the worship at Hickory Street
